Rachel Kass

Lead Teacher | Snow Lions

Rachel joins Middle Way School as Lead Teacher for the Snow Lions class (Kindergarten). Her experience in early childhood education and her passion for language skills are a beautiful blend for this age group. We’re pleased to welcome Rachel as a part of our team of contemplative educators!

I am overjoyed to join Middle Way as Lead Teacher of the Snow Lions! Since I was a child, I have loved three things: books, school and the forest. I feel so grateful to be in a place where I can interact with all my favorite things, and challenge students to better understand their potential, their curiosities, and themselves. I feel it is essential to integrate mindfulness in education while guiding children toward living a robust life full of love and learning. I aspire to create a classroom space where students can feel challenged and safe, and encouraged to nurture their inner kindness and sense of adventure.

This will be my sixth year as a head teacher. Previously, I’ve worked in Kindergarten and Pre-K in NYC, and attained my Master’s in Early Childhood Education at Hunter College. I am also a writer and poet, with an MFA from California College of the Arts.

Outside of school, I like bike riding, annoying my cats, and creating art! I find inspiration in introspection, meditation and observation. I can’t wait for a great year!
