Nick Carbuto

Assistant Teacher | Dragons

Nick joined Middle Way in 2022-2023 to serve as the Assistant Teacher for our Dragons and Owls classes. Nick comes to us with a background rich in education, music, and spiritual inquiry. This special combination of experience and interests make him a natural fit with Middle Way, and we look forward to seeing Nick settle in with the 8-10 year-olds of the Dragons and Owls.

As a life-long musician and song-writer, the practice of listening, harmonizing, and co-creating is at the core of who I am.  I carry this creative connectivity into all that I do – as a healing arts practitioner, an end-of-life doula, and especially in the classroom.  Coming to a school environment that cultivates this sense of empathic engagement is a treasure and it is my pleasure to be a part of this community.

I received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Long Island University.  I was choir director at a Catholic elementary school and a public school substitute teacher for two years before joining a monastic community.  As part of my ministerial work there, I had the great joy of volunteering at a school.  Education will always be part of who I am and I am very happy to return once more to the classroom.

Outside of school, you’ll most likely find me in a café, daydreaming and reading while slowly sipping on an espresso.  At home, I enjoy making delicious home-cooked meals with my partner and working out the musical ideas that come to me.  Contemplative practices are at the heart of my day and you’ll find me on a zafu in the early morning, sitting with the sunrise.
