Nick Carbuto
Assistant Teacher | Ravens
Nick first joined Middle Way in 2022–2023 with a background rich in education, music, and spiritual inquiry. This special combination of experience and interests make him a natural fit with Middle Way School. We’re so pleased to have him on our team!
As a life-long musician and song-writer, the practice of listening, harmonizing, and co-creating is at the core of who I am. I carry this creative connectivity into all that I do—as a healing arts practitioner, an end-of-life doula, and especially in the classroom. Being a part of a school environment that cultivates this sense of empathic engagement is a treasure and it is my pleasure to be a part of this community.
I received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Long Island University. I was choir director at a Catholic elementary school and a public school substitute teacher for two years before joining a monastic community. As part of my ministerial work there, I had the great joy of volunteering at a school, which furthered my love of education.
At Middle Way School, I’ve served as an Assistant Teacher, co-educating with the Lead Teachers of the Ravens and Dragons classes. I’ve also had the joy of working in some capacity with all learning ages at MWS. In the interim, I worked at as a Special Education Aide at Gowana Middle School in Clifton Park. There, I provided 1:1 accompaniment for students from grades six through 8 in a program designed for students with behavioral challenges, providing a safe and calm presence for students, especially in moments of escalation.
Education will always be part of who I am and I am very happy to help lead the Ravens class once again this year!
Outside of school, you’ll most likely find me in a café, daydreaming and reading while slowly sipping on an espresso. I’m also gratefully involved in several musical projects with close friends, which nourish and channel my creativity. Contemplative practices are at the heart of my day and you’ll find me on a zafu in the early morning, sitting with the sunrise.
