Kate Turley
Education Advisor
Kate Turley brings four decades of teaching and school leadership experience to our school. She has helped guide the board through major decision making processes, provides support to the administrative team, and is helping shape and articulate our academic and dharma curricula.
Kate first came to support Rinpoche’s education initiatives in 2014, when she attended a roundtable at the Rubin Museum at the invitation of Noa Jones. The roundtable was designed to help launch the Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative’s education program, which went on to become Lhomon Education. She was the Principal of City and Country School in Manhattan for eighteen years. Founded in 1914, City and Country is a recognized leader in progressive education for children from toddler through 8th Grade. Prior to City and Country, Kate was the Middle School Head at the Spence School. Throughout her long career, Kate has been an active member of many professional organizations. She fulfilled numerous roles for NYSAIS (New York State Association of Independent Schools), most recently as a Trustee and the Chair of NYSAIS’ Board of Commissioners on Accreditation. Along with supporting MWS, Kate is a Trustee at the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School and the Lycee Francais de New York. Kate earned her BA from the State University of New York. She has an MA in French Language and Literature from NYU and an MA in education from NYU in Education. Kate and her husband, Carl, live in Manhattan.
