Substitute Teacher | Buildings and Grounds Support

Few MWS staff members wore multiple hats in 2021-2022 quite like Devon, who helped with buildings and grounds projects, parking attendance, classroom and lunch support—you name it. In 2022-2023, Devon still wears many hats, but on a full-time basis. When not stepping in as our permanent substitute teacher, Devon supports David in managing our buildings and grounds. His quiet efficiency and good nature are deeply appreciated by all who work with him. Devon’s partner is Hannah, our Owls lead teacher, and dad to Maya, one of our littlest Fawns.

I am so thrilled to be joining the Middle Way School community in a full-time capacity, after forming my connection last year, first as a parent and then as a Buildings and Grounds and classroom support staff. Middle Way has been a welcoming, patient, and supportive environment to which I am excited to contribute. I am looking forward to expanding my role, working directly to support students both in and out of the classroom.

In my role at Middle Way, I am drawing on a diverse range of professional experiences. After graduating from Marlboro College with a B.A. in Sociology and Education, I worked for several years creating and implementing service plans as a direct care provider for individuals with developmental differences. Upon moving to the Hudson Valley, I pursued opportunities in agriculture and the local craft beverage industry. More recently, my time at Middle Way has reminded me of the importance of supporting others, finding balance, and being part of a positive  community.

Outside of school, I spend as much time as possible with my wife Hannah and daughter Maya, exploring nature and having fun. I am also an avid musician and enjoy baking cookies.
