Physical Education Teacher / Aftercare Provider

As Physical Education Teacher, Nick brings a strong background in progressive education along with a lifelong appreciation for movement. He has been involved with Middle Way School as both a substitute teacher, as well as a parent. In his new role, Nick will also be infusing the afterschool experience at Middle Way School with new perspectives and possibilities!

As the son of an athlete, sports were ever-present in my early life and central to some of my most vivid memories from these years—with dad on the hockey field or watching him on TV as he won an Olympic gold medal in Seoul. While I played sports throughout school, I chose to follow a passion for music to Berklee College of Music, and then on to a career in the music industry—as a writer, producer and recording engineer.

Across that time I created or sought-out opportunities to share and promote learning among children from diverse backgrounds
within the local community—supporting Boys and Girls Clubs, M.I.T., and Best Buy to establish a recording program, studio and learning lab in Jersey City. I also aided in the development of curriculum for B.E.A.T Global. The deep sense of fulfillment I drew from this voluntary work grew into a love for teaching and compelled me to pursue a career in education and further my understanding at Bank Street College of Education. Years working at Corlears School and the Packer Collegiate Institute only deepened this love of teaching, allowing me many opportunities to give and grow as an educator and as an individual.

Movement, games, and sports are such a pronounced feature of the classroom and school experience. I have always been struck by their power to inspire joy and learning, and their integral role in community-building. As a parent, I have really enjoyed the opportunity to coach sports for my son Hugo, and am thrilled to be joining my wife Tracy amongst the warm, creative community at Middle Way School. I look forward to bringing my experience from the classroom, field, studio, and beyond to a year of joy and learning with you all!
