DHARMA THEMES AT MWS

IMPERMANENCE

JANUARY 15 – FEBRUARY 16

How can I face change with an open heart and mind.
Impermanence is a fundamental part of life. It is a main focus of Buddhism as well as other sciences and philosophies. All things are in a constant state of change, of becoming and ceasing. We all experience the changes of birth, old age, sickness, and death. Change may be difficult and painful, and it can also be joyful. If we face change directly, and with equanimity, we are less likely to suffer.

We ask:

  • How do our speech, thoughts, and feelings change?
  • Is change good, bad, or neutral?
  • What practices can we do to experience change?
  • What are some tools I have to respond to change, especially when it’s a challenge for me?
  • What is the lifecycle of things we use in our daily life?
  • How does the natural world around us change?
  • What is my role in change? How much influence do I have? What tools does the dharma offer to help me make change?
