HANNAH SUNSHINE
Lead Teacher | Owls
Hannah is a second-generation elementary school teacher who came to us via our friends at Sarah Lawrence College. She teaches the 9- and 10-year-olds of our Owls class. Hannah loves teaching outside and making connections across all the domains of learning. She cares deeply about each and every one of her students, and her skill in front of the classroom is matched only by her kindness and compassion as a human being. We are excited to see our Owls soar.
I have more than a decade of teaching experience in a variety of school settings, and have worked with children ages 4 to12. I received an MS.Ed in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from Sarah Lawrence College. It was there that I learned to value children as individuals and to create curriculum that is engaging and developmentally appropriate. My BA is from Bard College where I studied Anthropology.
As a teacher, I aim to be thoughtful in my planning, but flexible and responsive to my students. I enjoy taking on new projects and topics, and when doing so, always seek to expand inclusivity and representation within my classroom. I also bring a passion for outdoor learning; for years I led hikes and overnight trips at summer camps. Teaching at Middle Way School has opened exciting new educational avenues for me to explore. It is a supportive and open-minded community which allows students and teachers alike to learn and grow.
Outside of school, you can find me with my husband Devon and my daughter Maya, who will is a Middle Way student. We love spending time outdoors as a family exploring nature. I also enjoy cooking, reading, knitting, listening to podcasts, and finding new and exciting dimensions of the wonderful Hudson Valley. Seeing Maya discover and interact with the world around her is my greatest joy.
