Co-Teacher: The Owls
Susan is Co-Teacher with Hannah for the 9 and 10 year-olds of the Owls class, our oldest group of students at Middle Way. With her extensive experience in progressive education, particularly with reading and writing, Susan is a wonderful resource for the Owls. Her calm and ready demeanor serves as an anchor not just for students but for staff as well. We’re very pleased to have her with us.
I have extensive experience as a classroom teacher working with children in preschool through fifth grade. My teaching career has been centered in Montclair, NJ, where I received my MS.Ed from Montclair State University.
As a recent transplant to the area, I was thrilled to discover Middle Way School. The entire school community has been extraordinarily welcoming and I am so very grateful to be a part of such a dynamic group of educators.
My teaching experience centers around progressive education, with a focus on integrated, thematic units, as well as extensive training with the Teachers College reading and writing workshop project. I am excited to join a dynamic community of teachers and learners who share a progressive vision of education that values creativity, mindfulness, and joy. I am dedicated to supporting children to create honest and caring relationships with themselves, each other, and the outside world, while integrating wisdom and compassion throughout the curriculum.
