Nick Banns

Assistant Teacher | Dragons and Owls

Nick joined Middle Way in 2022-2023 to serve as the Assistant Teacher for our Dragons and Owls classes.  A recent graduate of the Bank Street College of Education, Nick’s strong background with students aged 8-10 make him a natural fit with our Dragons and Owls; plus, with his previous career as a musician and songwriter, there are sure to be some sweet sounds coming from our Tara building.

Having transitioned from a career as a music writer, producer and recording engineer, these past years I have been pursuing a master’s degree in teaching at Bank Street College of Education while working in Upper Elementary classrooms – most recently, at Corlears School and the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn.

Music has been central to my own development and, throughout my years at Berklee College of Music and in the music industry, I consistently created or sought-out opportunities to share some of this same joy and learning with children from diverse backgrounds. The deep sense of fulfillment I drew from this work grew into a love for teaching and compelled me to pursue a career in education and further my understanding at Bank Street. Time in the classroom, with Third through Fifth Grades, has only deepened this love of teaching – allowing me many opportunities to give and grow as an educator and individual.

I am thrilled to be joining the warm, creative community at Middle Way—along with my wife, Tracy, who serves as the Snow Lions Co-Teacher, and son, Hugo, who joined Middle Way as a Fawn… (though, in truth, I’m also a little apprehensive about the morning car ride!) I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing my passion for the arts, languages, history and nature with all.
